About Awards
Awards are given for works where clients, designers and contractors
go beyond the legal and environmental minima to achieve high
and distinctive environmental and social performance in their
work.
CEEQUAL Awards are given to projects and contracts that have
been assessed against detailed and specific environmental
and social criteria by a CEEQUAL-trained
Assessor and verified by a CEEQUAL-appointed Verifier.
For Projects, whether in the UK or elsewhere, five types
of Award are available:
- Whole Project Award (WPA) - the normal
Award, applied for jointly by the client, designer and principal
contractor(s)
plus four part-team Awards are available for projects
where not all project partners can take part or where individual
members of the team would like to have their role assessed
and recognised separately:
- Client & Design Award - for a joint
application by the client and designer
- Design Award - for principal designers
only
- Design & Build Award - for a joint
application by the contractor and their designer
- Construction Award - for principal contractors
only.
In addition, the Whole Project Award with Interim
is available where a Client & (Outline) Design Award is
integrated into the process en route to a Whole Project Award.
For Term Maintenance or Multiple Small Works Contracts,
just one type of Award is available to recognise the achievement
of the whole contract team, with Awards in the first and last
years of the contract and at least every other year in between.
What level of achievement merits a CEEQUAL Award?
CEEQUAL assesses the extent to which the project or contract
has exceeded the statutory and regulatory minima. It is not
possible to achieve a 100% score due to conflicting environmental
or social issues in the assessment. The Award thresholds,
based on the maximum possible score for the work, as scoped
by the Assessor and Verifier, are:
- more than 25% - Pass
- more than 60% - Very Good
- more than 40% - Good
- more than 75% - Excellent (with the actual score being
given on the Award Certificate)
For Term Contracts, the
scores until the final year are given only as a percentage.
The different levels of awards should not be seen as inferior
to each other when comparing a Pass to an Excellent, for example,
as they are both beyond the legal minimum of environmental
and social performance in the industry. Also some levels of
achievement may be unreachable with certain types of projects.
How much will a formal verified CEEQUAL Assessment and Award
cost?
The fees vary depending on the CEEQUAL scheme, civil engineering
value and type of project applied for (in the case of CEEQUAL
for Projects schemes). Click here
