The Assynt Water Treatment Works team receives an 'Excellent' CEEQUAL award. |
Dear CEEQUAL Community
CEEQUAL’s Chief Executive Roger Venables has just returned from a number of very successful and encouraging meetings with civil engineering organisations around the world, sharing our experience with CEEQUAL, and strengthening CEEQUAL’s collaboration and input to the development of similar rating systems.
In this context, we are very pleased to be able to announce that the international version of CEEQUAL will be launched, as planned, in January 2011. In addition, the Term Contracts Version of CEEQUAL will be launched at an event at the ICE on 14th March – more about this below. Please make sure you make a note of the date now.
The growth in uptake of CEEQUAL overall has prompted us to start the process of adding to our cohort of Verifiers – see item below inviting registration of your interest.
And, finally, as we are now entering the festive period, the CEEQUAL Team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a peaceful Christmas season and a happy and prosperous 2011.
These are the headlines at a glance:
Please send any comments and feedback on this newsletter to betti.moser@ceequal.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

CEEQUAL Outstanding Achievement Awards
For some time, we have been exploring ways to extend the benefits to CEEQUAL and to assessment users through adding extra awards to our standard end-of-project certificates. In particular, we wanted to recognise outstanding achievements in each section of the assessment question set, whatever the overall score achieved.
As a result of this we have decided to introduce ‘Outstanding Achievement’ Awards for project teams that have demonstrated pinnacle best-practice performance in any of the twelve sections of their CEEQUAL assessment.
Assessors who have completed a Whole Project, Design & Build or Construction-only Award since the start of 2007 will shortly be invited to nominate their projects for one or more ‘Outstanding Achievement’ Awards. Verifiers too will be asked to nominate projects they have verified if they feel the project warrants it. Deadline for submissions will be noon on 10th January 2011.
A panel of our most experienced Verifiers and TAG members will then judge the nominations with the CEEQUAL Technical Manager, and the first winners will be announced at the drinks reception and dinner at the ICE on 14th March.
So, the next step will be an invitation soon to Verifiers and qualifying Assessors and we look forward to further celebration of excellent practice next March.

Are you interested in becoming a CEEQUAL Verifier?
The increasing uptake of CEEQUAL has prompted us to start our process for adding to the cohort of CEEQUAL Verifiers. To qualify, Assessors need to have completed a full CEEQUAL assessment (i.e. not an Interim Award).
If you have already, or are expecting to have an assessment verified by the end of February 2011, and are interested in becoming a Verifier, please as a first step register your interest with Charlotte Taylor at Ian Nicholson’s office. We will then send you details in the new year of the full entry requirements and the Verifier training process.

Growing international interest in CEEQUAL
In October and November, CEEQUAL Chief Executive Roger Venables attended a series of meetings and conferences in the USA, Australia and Argentina. The trigger for the trip was the development of sustainability rating systems for civil engineering projects, and collaboration was high on the agenda at these meetings.
The trip involved annual meetings and conferences of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) and a number of related meetings around these. Read more…
A page has been added to the CEEQUAL website highlighting our relationship with collaborating organisations in the UK and worldwide. |

Assessor Training Course programme for 2011 and introduction of mentoring
Building on our experience over recent years, the Board has agreed to introduce a new element to the training process for CEEQUAL Assessors.
In addition to the two-day training course, we are introducing a ‘Part 2’ to the training in the form of five hours personalised mentoring by Verifiers during an Assessor’s first assessment. This will enable the learning from the two-day course to be applied consistently on that first Assessment, thus minimising the time the assessment takes and maximising the value to the project team.
The mentoring will commence with an extended scoping-out meeting to ensure Assessors are confident in what they need to do. Beyond this the remaining hours can be used flexibly to ensure that the Assessor receives the most appropriate support.
This mentoring will be a requirement for Assessors from the first course in 2011, but will also be available as an option for all other Assessors who have not yet undertaken their first assessment. In addition, the two-day training course remains available to anyone who does not plan to assess projects but who needs a detailed awareness of how CEEQUAL works and the benefits that can accrue from its use.
The price of the two-day course has been held at £795 + VAT for 2011, with the new additional ‘Part 2’ mentoring priced at £600 (+VAT).
Dates for the first four CEEQUAL Assessor Training Courses in 2011 have just been announced. Booking forms for all these are now available on the CEEQUAL website.
